54 youths set off on Friday August 17 from Georgetown for the weekend to be part of this Abstinence Camp under the theme "Let's have fun with Abstinence." This camp targeted young people between the ages of 15-25yrs. The young people were exposed to various aspects of the Abstinence Curriculum and looked at 'Setting Boundaries & High Risk Behaviours', ' How Far is too Far and How to Say No', 'Myths and Infatuations vs. Love' and 'Renewed Virginity.'

The weekend included a healthy mixture of fun, keep fit, swimming, drama, songs, and other activities, which made it enjoyable. It ended with an uplifting Mass, with the Patron of the Programme, Bishop Francis Alleyene.

The 54 youth came from parishes in Linden, Wismar and Buxton, the Cathedral, Our Lady of the Mount, Holy Spirit, Holy Rosary, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Pius X.

The sessions were interactive, which gave the young people opportunities to mingle and get to know each other. There was a lot of group work, allowing them to participate and share their ideas and express their feelings. One session allowed them to be creative and show how talented they all are.

These sessions were conducted by Niall and Lucretia Stanton, Lawrence Kendall and Gavin Agard of the Program on Abstinence for the Guyana Management Committee. Abstinence Trainers Denroy Livan, Pamela Mittleholzer and Petra Simmons also gave up their weekend to make this possible.

The Abstinence Program is managed by the Roman Catholic Diocesan Youth Office (RCYO) and funded by Catholic Relief Services/AIDS Relief with PEPFAR FUNDS.
